Future Engineers of America
Future Engineers of America (FEA) is a pre-college initiative that was originally formed by the National Society of Black Engineers (Birmingham Alumni Extension) in 1989. Our mission is as follows:

To motivate and encourage young adults to pursue engineering degrees by exposing them to positive role models and providing them with valuable tools and resources to help them achieve that goal.

We have zealously embraced this mission throughout the years as evidenced by the more than 500 students that have graduated from our program since its inception.

What do we do?

We hold monthly sessions with our students during which we introduce vital skills that prepare them for engineering careers. These include public speaking, resume writing, and financial investing just to name a few. We also invite professionals representing various industries to present engineering disciplines including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, etc. The students have opportunities at each meeting to engage in hands-on activities pertaining to these highlighted disciplines. In addition we take several trips, typically three to four each year, to universities that offer engineering programs which allow our students to briefly experience college life at these schools. Our unyielding efforts and consistent engagement with these students influence and prepare many of them to pursue engineering careers.

Our program is open to all high school students (grades 9- 12) in the Birmingham and surrounding areas and has traditionally been free of charge and will be for the foreseeable future. We welcome all interested students to join us to enlighten themselves about the world of engineering. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this program.
